**Melbourne, Australia – October 2, 2026** – NJM Design has appointed Optiblack as its technology and AI partner. NJM Design is a multi-disciplinary building services engineering consultancy, and Optiblack is a data, analytics and AI consultancy. Optiblack will lead NJM Design's AI strategy, data foundation and implementation, helping the firm use AI to work faster, improve design quality and serve clients better.

John Maroulis founded NJM Design in 2004. Over 21 years the firm has delivered more than 8,000 projects for over 1,250 clients. Today it completes more than 500 projects a year, from small office fitouts to developments worth over $50 million. Its 44-person team works from offices in Melbourne, Geelong, Traralgon and Brisbane. The firm provides mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, fire protection, fire safety, ESD, structural and civil, and vertical transportation engineering. Its work spans health, education, commercial, residential, retail, industrial and heritage projects.

Those 8,000 projects represent two decades of drawings, specifications, calculations and lessons learned. The partnership is designed to turn that knowledge into a lasting competitive advantage. The engagement will focus on four areas:

- **Engineering knowledge base:** bringing NJM's project history into one searchable, AI-ready foundation so engineers can draw on past designs and solutions instantly.
- **Documentation and compliance:** using AI to speed up specifications, reports and design documentation, and to help check work against evolving standards such as NCC 2025.
- **Proposals and project management:** speeding up fee proposals and improving visibility of resourcing, timelines and project performance across all four offices.
- **Client experience and growth:** Modernising CRM and business development systems so NJM can respond faster to enquiries and deepen its long-standing client relationships.

Optiblack will use its "AI Accelerator" framework to rank initiatives by business impact and ease of adoption. This approach delivers early wins within weeks while building a long-term AI roadmap.
